International Humanitarian Law
International humanitarian law (IHL) is a branch of public international law that governs armed conflict and the rules regarding the means and methods of warfare. Although different in many ways from international human rights law, IHL does overlap with human rights protections, especially on issues regarding the treatment of prisoners and protection of civilians. Both IHL and the Convention against Torture, for example, prohibit torture in all circumstances.
