Economic and social rights

In this Module we will take an in-depth look at economic, social and cultural rights, in particular at the range of rights protected in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).
Learning objectives
Upon completion of this module, you will be able to:
- describe the range of rights protected in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR);
- explain the specific (and different) nature of the duties the ICESCR imposes on governments;
- discuss the legal and policy arguments for and against economic and social rights;
- explain how national courts play a role in enforcing international human rights law;
- describe the detailed nature of the right to adequate housing, and
- explain the concept of the “indivisibility” of human rights.
