We looked in Module 5 at the Charter-based UN human rights bodies.
In this Module we examine those procedures to monitor state’s compliance with their human rights obligations that are established under various international human rights treaties.
Learning objectives
Upon completion of this module, you will be able to:
- identify the 9 major UN human rights treaties, (and 10 associated monitoring bodies);
- explain the various enforcement techniques used by the UN treaty bodies;
- discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the treaty bodies, and
- understand the arguments around various proposals to reform the treaty bodies.
